Lucca X-Large TV Unit: planning a 1.8m television wall
This guide is about
Lucca X-Large TV Unit
The Lucca X-Large TV Unit is listed at 180 x 40 x 50cm. It is the widest of the Lucca TV units listed here, and at 1.8m it stops being somewhere to stand a television and starts being the furniture that sets out the whole wall. The listing itself is a size list, so everything below is either those figures or honest measuring advice.
1.8m of top, and the wall it needs
A 180cm unit wants a clear run of about 190cm so it does not look wedged in, and it wants that run at floor level. Measure between the real obstructions: architraves, a radiator bracket rather than the panel, the return of a chimney breast, the arc a door swings through. Then look up. If the unit is going under a window, check the cill height against 50cm plus whatever stands on the top.
For reference, this listing shows 180 x 40 x 50cm for this unit, 92 x 40 x 50cm for the small and 80 x 40 x 65cm for the corner. A 120 x 40 x 50cm large appears on the other Lucca TV unit listings but not on this one, so ask the shop if that is the width you are after. Only the first and the last figures move much between the sizes, so the decision is really about width.
Centre the unit, or centre the screen?
With 1.8m of top and a screen that is almost certainly narrower, you have a choice most people make by accident. Centre the unit on the wall and the screen on the unit, and the arrangement looks settled, with equal space at each end for a lamp or a speaker. Centre the screen on the seating instead, with the unit running off to one side, and it reads as deliberate only when something visually weighty sits at the far end. Decide before delivery day. Mark the wall with masking tape and live with the tape for an evening.
Skirting, sockets and the last few centimetres
At 40cm deep the footprint is modest. What pushes a unit like this into the room is everything else. Skirting holds it off the wall by its own thickness. A plug left in a socket behind it adds more, and a right-angled plug is the usual fix. Cables need somewhere to turn, and the listing does not say whether there are openings at the back, so ask if you want them out of sight. Last, measure the way in: a 1.8m piece has to get through the front door, round the turn of a hall and past the newel post at the foot of a stair.
What a size list cannot tell you
Four things are absent here and all four deserve a question. What the unit is made from. What finish it arrives in. Whether the space under the top is open, shelved or fitted with doors. What weight the top will carry, which matters most on the longest piece in a range, because a long top collects a screen, a soundbar and whatever else is put down on it. Nothing in the data answers them. Ask the shop, and get the answers on the order.
If 1.8m is too much
The Lucca Small TV Unit is the 92cm version of the same size list, and the Lucca Corner TV Unit is the one for a room where the long wall is already taken. The Torino X-Large TV Unit is listed at the same 180 x 40 x 50cm in the other range. Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond.
The photograph and the full size list are on the Lucca X-Large TV Unit page, alongside the rest of the TV units.
