Lucca Small TV Unit: will a 92cm top take your screen?
This guide is about
Lucca Small TV Unit
The Lucca Small TV Unit is listed at 92 x 40 x 50cm. The listing is a size list and nothing more, with no material, finish, colour or storage detail given, so this post sticks to what 92cm of width and 50cm of height do in a room and says plainly where you will have to ask.
The figures, and the one that catches people
The sizes on this listing are 120 x 40 x 50cm for the large, 92 x 40 x 50cm for the small and 80 x 40 x 65cm for the corner unit. This page is the 92cm piece, and the width is what decides the purchase. The figures read as width, depth and height, but the listing does not label them, so confirm which is which when you order.
Screen overhang, and why the feet matter more than the width
A 16:9 screen measures about 0.87 of its diagonal across, which puts a 43in panel at roughly 95cm, already wider than a 92cm top. Overhang at the edges is not in itself a problem. What matters is that the screen's feet or base plate land fully on the top, well inside the ends. So measure three things on the screen you own: the spread between the feet, the depth of each foot front to back against the unit's 40cm, and whether the base is one central plate or two legs set near the corners. A wide-set pair of feet rules out a 92cm top at almost any screen size, and a central pedestal makes the same screen work.
Rooms where 92cm is the right size
A narrow wall between two doors. A bedroom where the screen faces the bed. A flat where the sofa is close to the opposite wall. An alcove at the side of a chimney breast. Those are the situations a small unit is bought for. Measure the clear run at floor level and take a couple of centimetres off each end, so you can get a hand down the side to a plug. In an alcove, measure at the back of the recess as well as the front, because old plaster is rarely parallel and the smaller figure is the one that counts.
If the screen is going on the wall
A wall-mounted screen changes what the unit is for. It stops being a stand and becomes a surface for a box, a console and a soundbar. At 50cm high the top sits roughly level with a sofa arm, which keeps a soundbar below the picture and the remote within reach of a seat. The listing does not say whether there are cable openings at the back, so if you want the leads out of sight, ask the shop what the back of the unit looks like before you buy.
Ordering, and the sizes above it
If 92cm proves tight, the Lucca X-Large TV Unit is the 180cm version at the same 50cm height, and the Lucca Corner TV Unit takes the same screen into a corner and is listed at 80 x 40 x 65cm. The Torino Small TV Unit is listed at the same 92 x 40 x 50cm if you prefer that range. Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond.
