Lucca Large Sideboard: 137cm of top and the wall it needs
This guide is about
Lucca Large Sideboard
The Lucca Large Sideboard is listed at 137x40x81cm and nothing else is published about it. Forty centimetres of extra width over the small Lucca listing sounds modest written down. In a room it changes both what the top can do and where the piece can stand, so this is a measuring post rather than a description.
The figures, and the figures next to them
| Listing | Size as given |
|---|---|
| Lucca Large Sideboard | 137x40x81cm |
| Lucca Small Sideboard | 97x40x81cm |
| Lucca Mini Sideboard | 70x35x80cm |
Same depth, same height, 40cm more width. The figures are unlabelled; read as width, depth and height they match the rest of the range, but if a tight recess turns on it, ask us to confirm the order of the three before you commit.
137cm wants a wall of its own
This is the length at which a sideboard stops being a side piece and becomes the thing the wall is about. Allow at least 15cm of clear wall at each end, or it reads as wedged in rather than placed, which puts the sensible wall at roughly 170cm before a door swing, a radiator or a curtain pole starts competing for the same space. Where the 97cm listing will slot between a door frame and a chimney breast, this one generally needs the whole run.
What a 137cm top will actually hold
Enough for two table lamps with a tray between them, or a lamp at one end and a run of serving dishes at the other. If it is going to be served from, keep something like 60cm clear in the middle rather than filling the length end to end. A top with no clear space on it is a top you stop using, and the usual outcome is that everything migrates to the dining table anyway.
Why 81cm is high for a television
Seated eye level in most living rooms lands somewhere around 100 to 110cm off the floor. Stand a screen on an 81cm top and its centre sits well above that, which is the head-tilted-back arrangement nobody enjoys for a long film. If a television is the plan, the Milan Large Sideboard is listed at 160x40x70cm, so it is both lower and longer, and the purpose-made options are in TV Units.
What the listing does not tell you
There is no material, finish or colour, no door or drawer count, no internal dimensions, no weight and nothing about assembly. Two of those are worth chasing before you order: the internal layout, because a 137cm cabinet divided into narrow bays will not take a wide serving dish, and the weight, because the route in matters more at this length. We will check both for you rather than invent an answer here.
The rest of the range
The Lucca Small Sideboard is the same piece 40cm shorter, the Lucca Mini Sideboard is the hallway size, and the Torino Large Sideboard publishes the identical 137 x 40 x 81cm footprint in another range. Compare the photographs in Sideboards & Cabinets.
