Lucca Bedside 3 Drawer: measuring the gap beside your bed

Lucca Bedside 3 Drawer: measuring the gap beside your bed — Langham Furniture journal

This guide is about

Lucca Bedside 3 Drawer

View the product

The Lucca Bedside 3 Drawer is a three-drawer bedside table we supply as part of the Lucca range. Its listing gives one piece of hard information: the size, 47 x 37 x 62cm. No material, finish or colour is stated anywhere in the description, so this post works with the figures, which are the part that decides whether the piece fits.

The figures, and which is which

The listing prints the size as 47x37x62cm and does not label the axes. The last figure, 62cm, is the only one that reads as a height for a bedside case. The 47 and the 37 could be width and depth in either order, and that matters in a tight space: a 47cm front that projects 37cm behaves very differently from a 37cm front reaching 47cm into the room. Ask the shop to confirm the orientation before you commit to a narrow gap.

It is worth seeing the bedside tables side by side, because two of them are listed at the same footprint:

Torino Bedside 3 Drawer47 x 37 x 62cm3
Torino Bedside 1 Drawer44 x 47 x 62cm1

The Lucca and Torino three-drawer cases are listed at identical dimensions, so the choice between them is the look, not the fit. Compare the images on each product page, bearing in mind the Lucca listing carries a single photograph and the Torino pages carry several.

Measuring the gap beside your bed

  1. Measure the clear gap between the bed and whatever stands next to it, at floor level and again at mattress height. Skirting boards and radiator pipes often eat into the usable width lower down.
  2. Allow room for the drawers. A case this deep needs close to its own depth again in clear floor in front of it to open fully, and if the bed sits proud of the case the top drawer will catch bedding rather than the frame.
  3. Compare the 62cm height with the height of your mattress top. A bedside surface well below the mattress is awkward to reach from lying down; one close to it keeps a glass and a phone within reach.
  4. Check where your socket is. If it ends up behind the case you will be moving the whole thing to charge anything.

What it works with

A pair either side of a double or king bed adds two case fronts to the width of the bed itself, which is 74cm if the 37 is the front and 94cm if the 47 is, so measure the whole run rather than one gap. If one side of the room is tighter than the other, the Torino Bedside 1 Drawer is listed with a 44cm figure and a single drawer. If three bedside drawers will not hold enough on their own, the chests of drawers and the rest of the bedside tables sit in the same bedroom furniture section.

What the listing does not tell you

Said plainly: the material, the finish, the colour, the handle type, the drawer runners, whether it arrives assembled or flat-packed, and the weight are all absent from the supplier's description. The listing carries a single photograph, and that image is all there is to go on for the appearance. Anything you need to be sure of before ordering, including the construction and how it is packed, is worth a question to the shop rather than an assumption.
