London Round Table 1.3m: pedestal legroom and what it seats

London Round Table 1.3m: pedestal legroom and what it seats — Langham Furniture journal

This guide is about

London Round Table (1.3m)

View the product

The London Round Table is listed at one size, 130cm across and 75cm high, with a marble top, chrome frame accents and an inward-curved pedestal base. On a round table the base shape is not a styling detail. It decides how many chairs you can actually get round the edge, and a pedestal is the arrangement that gets the most.

One size, so there is no length to choose. At the standard 75cm dining height, a chair with a seat around 45cm leaves roughly 30cm of knee room.

Six places, and why the base is the reason

A 130cm circle has about 408cm of edge. At roughly 60cm per place setting that is six places, and because a pedestal puts nothing at the rim, all six are usable: you can set a chair anywhere round the table and slide it straight in. On a four-legged round table of the same diameter you have to work around the legs, and four to six is the realistic answer instead.

The other thing a circle does is conversation. There is no head of the table, everyone can see everyone, and there are no corners to catch a hip in a room people walk through. A round top also eats less of a square room than a rectangle of the same seating.

The floor area to leave

Allow about 100cm clear all the way round: roughly 75cm to pull a chair back and sit down, plus space for somebody to pass behind. That means a clear area of about 330cm across. In a 300cm room it still works, but somebody will be edging past a chair back, which gets old in a kitchen.

The pedestal foot sits in the middle of the floor, so check it against a rug edge or a floor vent. And measure the route in: a 130cm rigid top does not pivot in a narrow hall, so take the doorway width, the hall width and the stair turn before you order.

What the listing does not say

  • It calls the top marble but does not say whether that is natural stone or a marble-effect surface, and gives no thickness. Ask us if that distinction matters.
  • No weight is given. A round stone or stone-effect top is awkward as well as heavy, so plan the lift and have somebody with you on delivery day.
  • No colour, veining pattern, cleaning or sealing advice is listed. The photographs on the product page are the only guide and we can confirm the current surface.
  • The listing mentions residential or commercial settings but says nothing about where the table is made, and we will not claim it.

What it sits with

The straight comparison is the Lewis Round Table (1.3m): the same diameter and height, but on four tapered legs rather than a pedestal, which is the difference discussed above. For the same base idea in a rectangle, the London Dining Table (1.5/1.8/2m) runs from 150 to 200cm on a U-shaped pedestal. If the room needs to change size, the London Extending Dining Table opens from 120cm to 150cm or 160cm to 200cm. All the round tables we hold are listed together in Dining Tables.

Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond. Once you have measured the clear area, the London Round Table page carries the photographs and the order form.
