Lewis Mink Bench 110cm: Plush or Shiny Mink, and what fits

Lewis Mink Bench 110cm: Plush or Shiny Mink, and what fits — Langham Furniture journal

This guide is about

Lewis Mink Bench 110cm

The Lewis Mink Bench 110cm comes in one size and two finishes, which makes it a short decision: does 110cm work where you want it, and do you want Plush Mink or Shiny Mink. It is a piece we supply rather than make, and everything here comes from its own listing.

The size, and what 110cm actually takes

FigureAs the listing gives it
Size110 x 48 x 50cm

Read in that order the figures would be length, depth and height, which would put the seat at 50cm rather than at footstool height. The listing does not label them, so confirm which figure is which with the shop if your space is tight in one direction, or if the seat height is what matters.

110cm is the length that fits where a longer bench will not. In practice:

  • A hallway. One adult sits comfortably with shoes and a bag beside them; two sit at close quarters. Measure your hall width, subtract the 48cm depth, and check the walkway left still works with a coat on.
  • The foot of a single or small double. A UK single is 90cm wide and a small double 120cm, so 110cm overhangs a single at both ends and sits inside a small double.
  • A dressing area or window. Short enough to sit under a window without crowding the reveal, which is where the 48cm depth matters more than the length.
  • Not usually a dining bench. If 50cm is the seat height, it sits above the 45cm to 47cm of a typical dining chair. If you do want it at a table, measure floor to the underside of the top first and ask the shop to confirm the seat height.

Plush Mink or Shiny Mink

The listing names both finishes and describes the upholstery as mink velvet, but it does not explain how the two differ in sheen, texture or exact shade. That is worth a phone call rather than a guess: ask the shop for photographs of each under normal room light, and ask how each one behaves next to a window, because a shinier velvet shows the light differently across the length of a seat. If the bench has to sit beside an existing mink or taupe piece, have both checked before you order rather than matching them on a screen.

The frame, and the gaps worth asking about

It is listed with four chrome legs, which is a different arrangement from the end-leg-and-bar frame on the Chelsea. Four separate feet put the load on four points, so if it is going on a thick carpet or bare boards, ask what the feet are finished with. The listing is also silent on the velvet's fibre content and cleaning code, any weight limit, and whether it arrives in one piece or with the legs to fit. Ask for those and for the current lead time at the same time.

If 110cm is too short

The same depth and height run through the rest of the benches range, so stepping up in length does not change how it sits in the room. The Lewis Dark Grey Bench 110/130/160cm offers 130cm and 160cm in dark grey, the Lewis Silver Grey Bench 130/160cm is the lighter shimmer option, and the Chelsea Dark Grey Bench 130/180cm goes longest at 180cm. All of them sit in our living room section.

Ordering

Settle the finish first, since the size is fixed, and check the 48cm depth against the walkway it has to leave. Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond. Look the velvet and the chrome over before the driver leaves. Both finishes and every photograph are on the Lewis Mink Bench 110cm page.
