Lewis Coffee Table: four chrome legs, and the top to pick

Lewis Coffee Table: four chrome legs, and the top to pick — Langham Furniture journal

This guide is about

Lewis Coffee Table

View the product

The Lewis Coffee Table is listed with four slim legs on a polished chrome frame and a top you choose in either marble or ceramic, at 120 x 60 x 45cm. It has the most photographs of anything in this part of the range, which is useful, because the surface is the one thing a description cannot settle for you.

What four legs do

Four supports rather than two, and that cuts both ways.

  • The load is spread over four points rather than two, which is the steadier arrangement when somebody leans on an end.
  • Against that, there are four legs to hoover around rather than two, and a leg standing where you might have wanted to slide a footstool in.
  • The listing does not say where the four legs sit. One near each corner is the usual arrangement under a rectangular top, but four legs can also meet in a cross under the middle, and that changes the footprint on the floor completely. If the base decides whether this table fits your gap, judge it from the photographs or ask us.

On an uneven floor, a four-leg table is the one that will rock. Check it on the spot it is going to stand, and ask us about the feet if your floor is old boards.

Marble or ceramic

The listing offers the two surfaces and does not describe either beyond the name. It does not say whether the marble is natural stone or a marble-effect finish, and there is no colour, no pattern, no thickness and no cleaning advice for either option. Nor is there a surface selector on the product page, so the top is something to confirm with us when you order.

The useful questions: which surfaces are currently supplied, what the supplier says about sealing if it is stone, and whether the top you would be sent matches the photographs. We will find out rather than guess, and a guess in a blog post is worth nothing to you when the table is in your room.

Sizing it against your sofa

MeasurementAs listedWhat to allow
Length120cmBalanced in front of a 180-240cm sofa
Depth60cmClears most internal doorways; measure yours
Height45cmAbout level with a typical seat cushion

Leave roughly 40cm between the sofa and the table edge: enough for feet and for somebody to walk past, which brings the whole arrangement to about 200cm along its length. The listing does not label the three figures, so ask us to confirm which is which if a centimetre decides it.

What else to compare

For the same chrome in a two-leg frame with a bar between the legs, see the Chelsea Coffee Table. For a chrome pedestal instead of legs there is the London Coffee Table, and if gold suits the room better than chrome, check the SG-Lewis Coffee Table listing for its own size and finish. The full set is in Coffee Tables.

No weight is given for any of them, and both surfaces are heavy, so plan the route in and have help at the door. Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond. Once you have measured, the Lewis Coffee Table page has every photograph and the order form.
