Lewis Chair in chrome: Light Grey or Mink, 65 x 52 x 94cm — Langham Furniture journal

This guide is about

Lewis Chair (Lion Knocker/Chrome Legs)

View the product

The Lewis Chair pairs a chesterfield-style back with chrome legs and a lion knocker, in the shimmer velvet the description names, with diagonal stitching across the seat. It is listed at 65 x 52 x 94cm in Light Grey or Mink. Two decisions follow from that: which finish, and whether chrome or gold is right for your room. The photographs of both finishes are on the Lewis Chair (Lion Knocker/Chrome Legs) page.

Light Grey or Mink

These two are not a light-and-dark pair, they are a cool-and-warm one, and that is the useful way to choose.

  • Light Grey goes with grey flooring, white and off-white walls, glass and stainless steel. With chrome legs it is the consistent all-cool scheme, and it keeps a small dining room feeling open.
  • Mink is the warm neutral. It lifts oak, walnut and cream walls, and it hides a bit more of daily life than a pale grey will.

Shimmer velvet shifts tone as you move past it, so neither finish reads as one flat colour in a real room. Looking through the photographs is worth more than the swatch names here. The listing gives no fabric composition, no rub figure and no cleaning code, so if the chairs are for a table used every day, ask us what the supplier states before you commit to the paler of the two.

The 94cm is the overall height. The first two figures are the footprint and the listing does not say which is which, so ask us to confirm before planning a narrow room. At 65cm a chair, two need 130cm of table edge and three need 195cm, and you want a gap between them, so think of it as 140cm for two and 210cm for three. Measure the usable edge rather than the table length, because a corner leg can take a place away.

Chrome or gold, and mixing the two finishes

The G-Lewis Chair (Lion Knocker/Gold Legs) is listed at the same 65 x 52 x 94cm with the same two velvets, on polished gold legs. Everything above applies to it unchanged, so the metal is a free choice rather than a compromise. Match it to the hard metal already in the room: tap, pendant, handles, the table base if it has one. Gold with brass and oak, chrome with stainless and glass.

Because the two finishes are listed at the same size, you can also run Light Grey down the sides and Mink at the two ends, and the chairs will line up. If you want a darker set in the same shape, the Lewis 01 Plush Chair is the dark grey listing on chrome legs at the same size. For a different back in the same chrome-and-lion-knocker family, read the Roma Chair (Lion Knocker/Chrome Legs) page for its own dimensions.

What the listing does not say

  • Seat height. Not given, and it is what decides whether the chair tucks under a table apron.
  • Fabric composition and cleaning. Not given for either finish.
  • Frame, filling and weight limit. Not stated.
  • Assembly. The listing does not say whether the legs arrive fitted.

The Lewis is a chair we supply rather than part of our own range, so those answers come from the supplier. Ask us and we will get them.

Before you order

  • Hold a photograph of each finish next to your flooring in daylight, not under a bulb.
  • Measure the usable table edge and divide by 65cm plus a gap.
  • Allow the chair depth again behind each place for pushing back.
  • Ask us for the seat height, and order the set together so the velvet matches.

Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond. Compare the two finishes on the Lewis Chair page, and the other shapes and heights are in Dining Chairs.
