Lewis 01 Dark Grey Bar Stool: size, back detail and fit
This guide is about
Lewis 01 Dark Grey Bar Stool
The Lewis 01 Dark Grey Bar Stool is upholstered in shimmer velvet on a chrome base, with a Chesterfield back carrying deep button detailing and a lion knocker on the rear. One size is listed: 58 x 50 x 98cm. Two things decide this stool for most people, and they are the back and the 58cm.
Read the size before anything else
| Position in the listing | Figure |
|---|---|
| First | 58cm |
| Second | 50cm |
| Third | 98cm |
The listing prints "58 x 50 x 98cm" and does not label the figures. The 98cm is almost certainly an overall height rather than a seat height, though the listing does not say what it is measured to. The 58cm and 50cm are the footprint, and which is the width and which the depth is not stated either, so confirm the figures with us if the stool has to fit a measured gap.
The seat height is the figure you actually need, and the listing does not give it. Nor can you work it back out of the 98cm, since none of the figures is labelled and the listing does not say how much of the stool is back. Work from your own side instead: measure from the floor to the underside of the worktop, including the overhang and any trim beneath it, then ask us for the seat height and check there is comfortable clearance between the two. Island, breakfast bar and home bar heights all differ, so measure the one the stools are going to.
Lewis 01 or Lewis: the listing's own warning
The Lewis 01 listing notes that it has a different material from the Lewis Bar Stool, and the Lewis listing warns against confusing the two. They share the listed size, the chrome base, the Chesterfield back and the lion knocker. The fabric is not the same, and the colours differ: the Lewis 01 is listed in dark grey, while the Lewis is listed in light grey and mink.
That matters most if you are buying in two goes. Adding a stool next year, or ordering a fourth to match three you already have, means ordering the same name and the same colour, not the near one. If you are matching something already in the kitchen, the safest route is to ask us to check the two against each other before the order goes in.
What the buttoned back does in a room
A deep buttoned back is a feature, not just a support. It catches light across the buttons, it reads as a traditional shape against a plain modern island, and it is visible from behind, which is how island stools are usually seen. The listing describes the shimmer velvet as catching the light, so expect the colour to shift a little between a bright morning and a lit evening kitchen. If you want calmer, flatter backs, the Chelsea 01 Dark Grey Bar Stool is the plain-backed stool in the same family of sizes at a listed 54 x 48 x 102cm.
One practical point about tall backs: measure the height of the stool against anything that hangs over the counter. If the 98cm is the overall height, a pendant light, a shelf or an extractor at the end of an island can all be in the way, so get the height confirmed before you order.
How many fit, and what to add
- Two Lewis 01 stools occupy 116cm of counter, before any gap between them.
- Three occupy 174cm.
- Four occupy 232cm.
Add your own spacing on top of those figures and at each end. At 58cm these are not the narrowest stools here, so on a short run two with room around them is usually the better answer than three. If you want a larger stool again, the Mayfair Bar Stool (Lion Knocker) is listed at 64 x 60 x 100cm with the same lion detail. The whole set is on the bar stools page.
What the listing does not say
No seat height, no weight limit, no rub rating for the shimmer velvet, no note on whether the stool arrives assembled, and no swivel or gas lift described, so treat the height as fixed. Ask about any of it before you order.
Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond.
