Henley ottoman divan bed: winged headboard, studded sides and the width to allow for it
This guide is about
Henley Ottoman Divan Bed
A winged headboard changes how a bed sits in a room. The Henley has deep diamond tufting with crystal buttons across the board, a forward-angled wing at each side, and a line of small round studs running down each wing. Those wings turn the headboard into something closer to a three-sided alcove, and they are also the reason the Henley measures wider than its nominal size suggests.
Measure for the wings, not the mattress
This is the one piece of homework the Henley asks for. The finished widths below are already generous for the mattress size, because the wings come forward at each side:
- Small Single 2FT6 is 79cm wide and 196.5cm long
- Single 3FT is 94cm wide and 196.5cm long
- Small Double 4FT is 124cm wide and 196.5cm long
- Double 4FT6 is 139cm wide and 196.5cm long
- King 5FT is 154cm wide and 205cm long
- Super King 6FT is 188cm wide and 205cm long
A double is 139cm across and 196.5cm long, and a king steps up to 205cm long. If the bed is going into an alcove or between a wall and a wardrobe, the headboard end is where it will catch first. There is a size guide on the product page with the bed drawn from the side and from above, every size to the same scale, which is the quickest way to check a tight room.
One more thought about the wings: they angle forward, so bedside tables want to be deep enough to clear them or low enough to tuck beneath. If you are buying tables at the same time, measure the wing projection into the room before you choose, or look at what sits lowest in our bedroom furniture range.
What the studs and the crystal buttons add up to
Three details are doing the work here: the depth of the tufting, the crystal buttons at the intersections, and the studs down the wings. Individually each is familiar. Together they give the Henley a hotel-room formality that the flatter boards in our ottoman divan beds range do not attempt.
The whole bed is upholstered in one cloth, headboard, wings, base and sides, so it arrives as a single piece rather than a frame and a board that nearly match. The studs follow the wing edge, which means they catch light from the side of the room rather than from above; it is a detail you notice from the doorway more than from the bed.
The base is all storage
Under the mattress the Henley is an ottoman. The whole base lifts: gas struts take the weight of the mattress, the top swings up from the side, and the full footprint of the bed opens as one lined compartment. No drawers, no runners, nothing that has to clear a wall or a wardrobe door, and it still works with the bed in a corner. That is the trade people make when they choose this over drawers, and on a bed this size it is a lot of recovered space.
Fabric
Twenty-six colourways, upholstered to order. On a winged, tufted and studded board the cloth decides how loud the bed is. Black or Charcoal in a plush velvet with crystal buttons is the full-strength version; Almond or Mink Coniston with the same detailing is the same shape saying considerably less. Both are the same bed underneath.
Delivery and mattresses
Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond that. If you are looking at beds in Glasgow, the Henley is one we would rather you saw in person, because a photograph flattens the wings and a wing is the whole point. Mattresses are sold separately so you can choose the tension that suits you.
All six sizes, the fabric selector and the size guide are on the Henley listing.
