Heart Console Table (LED): hallway depth, height and socket planning

Heart Console Table (LED): hallway depth, height and socket planning — Langham Furniture journal

This guide is about

Heart Console Table (LED)

The Heart Console Table (LED) is listed at 120 x 36 x 82cm with a white LED. That is the entire description, so here is what those three numbers mean in a hall or behind a sofa, and what is worth asking us before you order.

The dimensions are unlabelled. Read as a console they are 120cm along the wall, 36cm out into the room and 82cm to the top. If one of those is critical, ask us to confirm the orientation rather than taking it as read.

36cm is the number that decides a hallway

Depth, not length, is what makes a console work in a corridor. A hall needs about 90cm clear for people to pass comfortably and around 70cm at the absolute minimum. So measure your hall wall to wall, subtract 36cm, and see what you are left with:

  • A 130cm hall leaves 94cm clear. Comfortable.
  • A 110cm hall leaves 74cm. Usable, but two people will not pass at the table.
  • A 100cm hall leaves 64cm. Too tight for a main route, though it can still work on a landing or a dead-end wall.

Then check the length. 120cm needs a clear run of wall with no radiator, no door swing and no light switch in the way. Open every nearby door fully and measure where the leading edge lands, because a door that clears the table by 2cm today will catch it when somebody pushes it.

Where 82cm puts things

82cm is a few centimetres above dining-table height and a few below a kitchen worktop, so the top is a comfortable surface to use without bending. For a mirror above it, the usual approach is a gap of roughly 15 to 25cm between the top and the bottom of the frame, which starts the frame at around 100cm from the floor. For lamps, remember the table is already lit, and a tall lamp on an 82cm top puts a bulb close to face height.

The LED, and the rest of the gaps

The listing names a white LED and stops there. It does not say whether the light runs from the mains or a battery, whether there is a switch, a plug or a remote, where a cable leaves the piece, or whether the colour can be changed. Plan the socket before you buy and ask us to confirm how the current piece is powered, because a console that needs a plug and a hall with no socket is a problem you cannot solve after delivery. There is no weight, no material and no stated finish either. It is filed in Mirrored Furniture, and the six photographs show the finish better than any sentence here.

What it works with

If you want the same lit treatment in a smaller space, the Diamond Stand 01 (LED) is listed at 40 x 40 x 80cm, within 2cm of this height, so the two can share a wall without a step in the top line. For another console in the same category, compare the V Console Table and ask us for its dimensions, which are not given here. In a bedroom the Roma Dressing Table is the piece from the same family that does a similar job sitting down, and the Roma Mirrored Stool is the matching seat. Neither listing gives its dimensions, so ask us whether the stool clears the table if it has to tuck underneath.

Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond. Measure the width of your hall first, then see the Heart Console Table (LED) page for the photographs and to order.
