GS-Madrid Dining Table: 1.8m or 2m, and the room it needs
This guide is about
GS-Madrid Dining Table (1.8/2m)
The GS-Madrid Dining Table is a large table in both of its sizes. The listing gives 180 x 90 x 75cm and 200 x 100 x 75cm, describes a block base finished in a blend of silver and gold, and says the top is marble. The 2m option is not simply longer than the 1.8m: it is also 10cm deeper, and that changes how it behaves in a room.
The figures, exactly as listed
| Size option | As the listing gives it | Reads as |
|---|---|---|
| 1.8m | 180 x 90 x 75cm | length x width x height |
| 2m | 200 x 100 x 75cm | length x width x height |
The listing does not label the figures, so we have read them in the usual order for a dining table. The height is the same for both. If the exact depth is the number your room turns on, ask us to confirm it before you order.
What each length seats
Working on about 60cm of table edge per place setting, the 180cm top seats six in comfort and eight with one at each end. The 200cm top seats eight in comfort and ten at a squeeze. If you regularly host more than six, the 2m option is the one that stops you apologising for elbows.
The extra 10cm of depth on the 2m top is worth thinking about separately. A 100cm width gives you a proper run down the centre for serving dishes, candles or a board, but it also puts your guest about a metre away across the table, which is further than most people like to pass a dish. If passing things matters more to you than centre space, the 90cm top is the friendlier shape.
The floor area to leave
Allow about 100cm clear on every side where somebody will sit: roughly 75cm to pull a chair back and sit down, plus space for another person to walk behind. That gives a working footprint of about 380 x 290cm for the 1.8m table and about 400 x 300cm for the 2m. Take 100cm off any side that stands against a wall, and measure the doorways, hall width and stair turn on the way in as well as the spot it will stand. A 2m top does not pivot in a narrow hall.
At 75cm high, a dining chair with a seat around 45cm leaves roughly 30cm of knee room. A block base sits well inboard of the ends, so the two end places are clear of legs, but it does occupy the middle of the floor under the table. Check it against a bench you plan to slide right underneath.
What the listing does not say
- It calls the top marble but does not say whether that is natural stone or a marble-effect surface, and gives no thickness. Ask us if that distinction matters to you.
- No weight is given for either size. A top this big in stone or stone effect is heavy, so plan the route in and have somebody with you on delivery day.
- Nothing on cleaning, sealing, or whether the base arrives separate from the top.
- No seat count is claimed by the listing. The numbers above are our own measuring rule, not a specification.
Where it sits in the range
If both of these are too big, the GS-Lucy Dining Table (1.5/1.8m) takes the same silver-and-gold finish down to a 150 x 90cm top on a cross base. For a 2m top on a different base shape, compare the SG-Monaco Table (2m) and the SG-London Dining Table (1.8/2m). The matching GS-Madrid coffee table carries the same treatment into the living room, and every length and shape we hold is listed in Dining Tables.
Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond. When you have measured the floor and the route in, the GS-Madrid Dining Table page carries the photographs and both sizes.
