Granville ottoman divan bed: panelled headboard, six sizes, one big compartment
This guide is about
Granville Ottoman Divan Bed
Six generous rectangular panels in two rows of three, each divided from the next by a deep recessed seam. That is the Granville headboard, and on a bed where everything below the mattress is storage, the headboard is the only place a design can live. It is one of the more architectural boards in our ottoman divan beds range: flat planes and shadow lines rather than buttons and tufting.
Ottoman or drawers?
This is the question behind every enquiry we get about divan beds with storage, so here is the plain version. A drawer base divides the space under the bed into boxes and needs clear floor in front of each one. An ottoman base keeps the space whole and needs only somewhere to stand at the side.
On the Granville the whole base lifts. Gas struts take the weight of the mattress and the top swings up from the side, opening the full footprint of the bed as one lined compartment, with no runners and nothing that has to clear a wall or a wardrobe door. It is the most storage available under a bed of this size, and you can still reach it with the bed pushed into a corner, which is exactly where most beds end up.
The trade-off is honest enough: you cannot open an ottoman base with the bed made and a cat asleep on it, and anything you want weekly is better in a drawer. Everything seasonal, bulky or rarely needed belongs under here, which is why ottoman beds suit box rooms and spare rooms so well.
The six sizes
Measured across the finished bed at its widest point, which is what has to fit the room:
- Small Single 2FT6 is 75cm wide and 191.5cm long
- Single 3FT is 90cm wide and 191.5cm long
- Small Double 4FT is 120cm wide and 191.5cm long
- Double 4FT6 is 135cm wide and 191.5cm long
- King 5FT is 150cm wide and 200cm long
- Super King 6FT is 184cm wide and 200cm long
The length steps up from 191.5cm to 200cm at king, so going from a double to a king costs you 15cm across the room and another 8.5cm along it. Measure the second one too. The product page draws the bed from the side and from above with every size to the same scale, which is the fastest way to see whether a super king really clears the chimney breast.
Picking the cloth for a panelled board
The Granville is upholstered to order in any of twenty-six colourways, and the headboard, base and sides are all done in the fabric you choose. Recessed seams work by shadow, so the cloth decides how much of the panelling you actually see. A velvet such as Mocca or Steel Plush Velvet throws a strong shadow line and makes the panels read deep. A flatter, lighter cloth such as Cream Naples softens them until the board is almost plain. Neither is wrong; they are two different beds.
The selector also lists a 54-inch floor-standing headboard, which extends the panelling down past the mattress line. Check what is on that stretch of wall first, because a floor-standing board does not go over a skirting-level socket.
Delivery, and what is not included
Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond that. Mattresses are sold separately, deliberately, so that you are not paying for a tension somebody else chose; browse our mattresses alongside the bed and pick the one you would actually sleep on.
The size guide, the fabric selector and the headboard options are all on the Granville ottoman divan listing.
