G-Milan Chair: an 86cm ribbed back for open-plan rooms
This guide is about
G-Milan Chair (Gold Legs)
The G-Milan Chair is listed at 64 x 56 x 86cm, with a ribbed back, velvet upholstery and gold legs. Among the gold-legged chairs here it has the lowest back by a clear margin, and that is the practical reason to look at it. The photographs and the three finishes are on the G-Milan Chair (Gold Legs) page.
Why 86cm is the figure that matters
The last number in a chair size string is the overall height to the top of the back, and the gold-legged listings vary more than you would expect.
| Listing | Size as listed | Back height |
|---|---|---|
| G-Milan Chair | 64 x 56 x 86cm | 86cm |
| G-Lewis Chair | 65 x 52 x 94cm | 94cm |
| G-Roma Chair | 64 x 56 x 97cm | 97cm |
| G-Lucy Chair | 67 x 50 x 103cm | 103cm |
Seventeen centimetres separate the G-Milan from the G-Lucy, and in a room you see it. A table in an open-plan kitchen with 86cm backs stays visually low, so the view across to the garden doors, the island or the television survives. The same table with backs over a metre tall reads as a wall. If the dining table sits in its own room, the taller back is the one that frames it. Decide which of those two rooms you have before you decide which chair you like.
The 56cm footprint figure wants more floor
The G-Milan and G-Roma share a 64 x 56cm footprint, where the G-Lewis is 65 x 52cm. If the second figure is the front-to-back measurement, and the listing does not label it, that is 4cm more floor per chair between table and wall. Ask us to confirm which figure is which before you plan a tight room.
For seating, 64cm a chair means two need 128cm of table edge and three need 192cm, plus a gap between each. A 140cm table takes two a side. Three a side wants a table edge of 200cm or more. Behind the chair, allow its depth again so it can be pushed back and sat in without hitting the wall.
Black, Dark Grey or Ivory
The description lists Black, Dark Grey and Ivory. On the product page the black option is named crushed black, so ask us to confirm the finish you are buying if a flat black is what you have in mind. The ribbed back is the shape detail: the description credits it with support and texture, and it is a surface worth seeing in the photographs in all three tones, because ribbing throws shadow and changes how dark each one reads.
No composition, rub figure or cleaning code is given for the velvet. Ask us what the supplier states, especially for ivory.
Where the listing says it goes, and what it does not say
The description names dining rooms, home offices and accent seating. The desk use is worth a thought: it describes legs, not castors and not a swivel, so expect a chair that stays where you put it. If a swivel is the point, the Roco 360º Chair (Black Legs) is the listing that says so, and it has its own dimensions to read.
- Seat height. Not listed. It matters at a table apron and even more at a desk.
- Velvet detail and cleaning. Not given.
- Frame and weight limit. Not given.
- Assembly. The listing does not say whether the legs arrive fitted.
This is a chair we supply rather than one from our own range, so those answers come from the supplier. Ask and we will get them.
Before you order
- Stand where you usually sit in the next room and decide whether you want to see over the chair backs.
- Measure the usable table edge and divide by 64cm plus a gap.
- Allow for the 56cm figure behind each chair, not the 52cm of a slimmer listing.
- Ask us for the seat height and the fabric detail in one go.
Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond. The gallery and the finish choices are on the G-Milan Chair page, and the taller and shorter alternatives are in Dining Chairs.
