G-M008 Wall Mirror: a 50 x 110cm gold frame, and where it fits
This guide is about
G-M008 Wall Mirror
Narrow walls are the awkward ones. The strip between two doors, the pier beside a stair, the bit of hall left over once the radiator and the light switch have had their share. The G-M008 Wall Mirror is listed in a single size, 50 x 110cm, and that shape is the reason to look at it: it is one of the slimmer pieces in the Wall Mirrors range.
50 x 110cm, and which figure is the width
The listing gives two figures and does not say which way round they read. Hung as a tall mirror it is 50cm across and 110cm up the wall. Turned on its side it becomes a long low mirror 110cm wide. The listing does not settle which it is, so confirm the orientation with us before you order rather than assuming, especially if you are fitting it into a measured gap.
| What the listing gives | What it does not |
|---|---|
| One size, 50 x 110cm | Which figure is the width |
| An ornate gold design, described as a warm gold finish | What the frame is made from, or the depth of it |
| Two photographs with the listing | The width of the moulding, and how much of the 50cm is glass |
What a 50cm width is good for
At half a metre across this is not the mirror that becomes the main event on a living room wall. It is the one that fits where nothing else will.
- A pier between two doors. Measure architrave to architrave and keep a margin of plain wall each side, or the frame reads as wedged in.
- Beside a basin. A wide mirror often fouls a wall light or a cistern; a narrow one clears both.
- Above a narrow console. Keep the mirror narrower than the furniture under it. A 50cm face sits comfortably over a console of about 80cm or more.
- At the turn of a stair, where a tall shape follows the wall rather than fighting it.
If the mirror is there to be looked into rather than simply to throw light about, centre the glass around 155 to 160cm off the floor.
The frame, exactly as described
The listing calls it an ornate gold design with classic proportions and refined detailing, and says the warm gold finish suits traditional and contemporary rooms alike. It also suggests bathrooms, bedrooms and living areas. What it records about the construction is nothing: no frame material, no glass thickness, no note of whether the edge is bevelled, and no weight. Nothing in the listing rates the mirror for a steamy bathroom either, so if it is going opposite a shower, ask us first.
Before you drill
- No weight is given. On plasterboard that matters, so ask us before you choose a fixing.
- No fixing method is described, and nothing says what is supplied with the mirror. Ask what is on the back of it.
- Unwrap and check the glass and the frame corners while the packaging is still with you.
Where to see it, and what sits near it
Photographs, the size and the order page are all on the G-M008 Wall Mirror listing. If you need slimmer still, the G-M006 Wall Mirror is a geometric gold frame listed at 25 x 110cm, the same height on half the width. For the same gold finish in a circle, the G-M010 Wall Mirror is listed at 69cm across, and if you would rather not drill at all, the G-M011 Free-Standing Mirror stands on the floor at 40 x 140cm. Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond.
