G-M005 Wall Mirror: 180cm of height in 60cm of wall
This guide is about
G-M005 Wall Mirror
Tall and narrow is the hardest shape to buy and the most useful one to own. It fits the wall between two doors, the slip of plaster beside a chimney breast, the end of a hall that is too narrow for anything else. The G-M005 Wall Mirror is that shape: listed at 60 x 180cm, with an Art Deco frame laid over the reflective surface.
180cm of height, and the wall it has to fit
Height is the figure to check first, because it is the one that runs out. In a room with a 240cm ceiling, a 180cm mirror leaves 60cm to share between the skirting below and the ceiling line above, and that 60cm is not optional: hang it too low and the frame sits on the skirting, hang it too high and there is a gap under it that reads as a mistake.
So measure the clear plaster, not the room. From the top of the skirting to the underside of any coving or cornice is the dimension that matters, and anything crossing the wall in between, a light switch, a thermostat, a picture rail, has to be dealt with before the mirror arrives rather than after.
The frame over the glass
Like others in this group, the G-M005 is a frame-over-mirror design: the geometric Art Deco frame sits across the glass rather than stopping at its edge, which gives the layered look the listing describes. At this height the effect is strong, because the frame's lines run the length of the piece.
It also means the clear reflective area is less than 60 x 180cm, and the listing does not say by how much. If you want this as the mirror you dress in front of, look hard at the two product photographs first, or ask the shop how much of the glass the frame crosses.
It hangs: it is not a leaning mirror
Nothing in the listing says the G-M005 is designed to stand on the floor, and a wall mirror leaned against a wall is a hazard rather than a style choice. If a floor piece is what you want, the F1710 Free-Standing Mirror is built for it at 50 x 160cm and the 8008 Free-Standing Mirror at 40 x 150cm.
Hanging one of this length wants two fixings and a spirit level, because a tall frame shows an error far more than a square one does: half a degree out over 180cm is visible across the room. The listing states no weight and specifies no fixings, so ask the shop for both, and plan on having help to hold it while the second fixing goes in.
What it works with
A tall mirror pairs naturally with a low piece of furniture: a bench, a shoe cupboard, a slim console, anything that keeps the floor line unbroken so the height has somewhere to come from. In a bedroom it works beside a wardrobe rather than opposite it, where it reflects the window instead of the wardrobe doors.
For the same layered frame in a round format there is the G-M003 Wall Mirror at 80cm across, and for a plain dark alternative in a smaller size the G-M004 Black Wall Mirror at 80 x 120cm.
