G-Lewis Chair: gold legs, a buttoned back and table fit
This guide is about
G-Lewis Chair (Lion Knocker/Gold Legs)
The G-Lewis Chair is a gold-legged dining chair with a buttoned Chesterfield back, listed at 65 x 52 x 94cm in what the description calls shimmer velvet. Those three numbers decide whether it works at your table, so this guide starts with them. The gallery and the two finishes are on the G-Lewis Chair (Lion Knocker/Gold Legs) page.
What 65 x 52 x 94cm means at a real table
The listing gives the size as one string with no labels. The 94cm figure is plainly the overall height to the top of the back. The other two are the footprint, and the listing does not say which is the width across the seat and which is front to back, so ask us to confirm that before you count places round a table.
| Detail | As listed |
|---|---|
| Size | 65 x 52 x 94cm |
| Overall height | 94cm |
| Footprint figures | 65 x 52cm |
| Finishes | Light Grey, Mink |
| Back | Chesterfield with deep button detailing |
| Front panel | Diagonal stitching |
| Legs | Polished gold |
| Detail | Lion knocker |
Take 65cm as the width and the sums are quick. Two chairs side by side need 130cm of table edge, and you want a hand width between them, so plan on about 140cm for two and a little over 200cm for three. A 150cm table seats two a side. Three a side wants a table edge nearer 210cm. Then measure behind the chair: pushed in it takes its own depth, and to slide back and stand up somebody needs roughly that depth again, more if there is a walkway behind.
Light Grey or Mink
Two finishes are listed, Light Grey and Mink, both in the shimmer velvet the description names. Shimmer shifts tone with the light, which is exactly why it is worth looking through the photographs of both rather than choosing from a swatch name. The listing does not give the fabric composition, a rub figure or a cleaning code, so if the chair is going round a family table ask us what the supplier states before you settle on the paler of the two.
The deep buttoning is the other thing to weigh day to day. It is the detail that makes the chair, and it also gives crumbs and dust somewhere to sit, so a soft brush attachment is worth having to hand.
Gold legs, or the same size in chrome
Three Lewis listings carry exactly the same 65 x 52 x 94cm size, so the real choice between them is the metal and the fabric.
| Listing | Legs | Finishes listed |
|---|---|---|
| G-Lewis Chair | Polished gold | Light Grey, Mink |
| Lewis Chair (Lion Knocker/Chrome Legs) | Chrome | Light Grey, Mink |
| Lewis 01 Plush Chair | Chrome | Dark Grey |
Gold reads warm and sits well with brass pendants, oak and darker walls. Chrome is cooler and matches stainless appliances and glass. If your table has a metal base or frame, match the chair to the table rather than to the room. Two other gold-legged listings are worth putting beside it: the G-Roma Chair, which swaps the buttoning for hexagonal stitching, and the G-Lucy Chair, taller at 103cm with a scroll top and a ring knocker instead of the lion.
What the listing does not tell you
- Seat height. Not given, and it is the figure that decides whether the chair slides under your table apron. Measure floor to the underside of your table top and ask us for the seat height.
- Fabric detail. Shimmer velvet is named. Composition, pile direction and cleaning instructions are not.
- Frame and weight limit. Neither is stated.
- Assembly. The listing does not say whether the legs arrive fitted.
Ask us any of those and we will check with the supplier rather than guess. The G-Lewis is a chair we supply rather than part of our own range, so the specification is the supplier's and we would rather pass it on straight.
Before you order
- Measure the usable table edge, not the table length. A corner leg or a pedestal foot can take a place away.
- Count 65cm a chair plus a gap, then check that against the table you actually have.
- Measure floor to the underside of the table top and ask us for the seat height.
- Check the clearance behind each chair, both for pushing back and for anyone walking past.
- Order the full set in one go so the velvet comes from the same run where possible.
Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond. When the measurements stack up, the finishes and photographs are on the G-Lewis Chair page, and the rest of the range sits in Dining Chairs.
