Fencing 88E Black: the shade where posts and trim agree

Fencing 88E Black: the shade where posts and trim agree — Langham Furniture journal

This guide is about

Fencing 88E - Black - Outdoor - 180cm (1 Pack / 6pcs)

View the product

The Fencing 88E board pack in black is the 16cm composite profile in the one shade that matches the colour stated for both of the posts and for one of the two trims the listing names. That saves a guess on those three, but the pack count still has to be worked out, so start with the figures.

What one pack covers

The listing gives a board of 16 x 180 x 2cm when fitted and interlocked, six boards to a pack, and 1.73m² covered. The three agree: six boards 16cm deep stack to 96cm, and over a 180cm length that is 1.73m².

Two packs to a fence panel is the listing's own rule, and twelve boards at 16cm stack to 1.92m. A 1.8m bay does not divide into whole boards: eleven reach 1.76m, and the twelfth takes you above the post. So a bay is two packs with one board to cut, set low or keep back, and that is worth confirming with the shop if the posts are already concreted in and the heights are fixed.

Your run, in packs

  1. Measure between post centres in metres, at both ends of the run.
  2. Divide by 1.8m for bays and round up. An 11m boundary is seven bays.
  3. Two packs a bay at full height, so seven bays is fourteen packs.
  4. For a lower fence, divide the finished height in metres by 0.16 for boards, then by six for packs.
  5. Add a cutting allowance, and ask the shop what it should be for this profile.

Why black is the simple one to fit out

The listing names posts for a new run, trims for an existing concrete post run, and two lattices. Black is stated in the title of both posts and of one trim; the Fencing 86 Trim and the two lattices state no colour at all. The uprights are the 6-inch black fence post, four to a pack, and the 8-inch black fence post, two to a pack. The trim is the Fencing 94 Trim in black, four 180cm lengths to a pack, cut to length to finish the top and bottom edges. With black boards, those are the same stated colour rather than a contrast you have to live with.

What the listing does not do is promise the blacks are the same black. Two components in the same shade name can still read differently in sheen or depth, and nothing in the listing covers sheen at all, so put a board and a post side by side in daylight before you order a whole boundary. And since the Fencing 86 Trim gives no colour at all, ask about that one specifically rather than assuming it comes in black.

The gaps worth asking about

The listing says the composite is weather and UV resistant and protects against fading in direct sunlight, and that the boards interlock without visible gaps. It does not say what the composite is made of, give a fire classification, state a wind rating, or say whether fixings come with the posts and trims. Dark surfaces also behave differently in full sun to pale ones, and the listing says nothing on that, so if the fence is south-facing and will be touched daily, ask in the shop rather than assuming.

If black is too hard a line for the garden, Fencing 88D in dark brown is the same board and pack in a warmer shade, and Fencing 88F in khaki is the muted option. All of them sit in fencing, under the wider garden and outdoor listings.

Delivery is free within 50 miles of the Glasgow store and £50 beyond. Count the boards on arrival and lay one against your measurement before anything is cut. When the bays are settled, order the Fencing 88E black pack two to the bay, quoting the full title and the code as the listing asks.
