Fencing 88A Oak 03: pack coverage, bay count and the code
This guide is about
Fencing 88A - Oak 03 - Outdoor - 180cm (1 Pack / 6pcs)
The Fencing 88A board pack in Oak 03 is one of five shades of the same 16cm composite board, and ordering a boundary starts with working the pack count out. The listing carries the figures to do it, and one instruction at the end of the description that is easy to miss.
The figures on the listing
Three numbers, and they check out against each other: a board of 16 x 180 x 2cm when fitted and interlocked, six boards to a pack, 1.73m² covered per pack. Six boards 16cm deep stack to 96cm, and at 180cm long that is 1.73m².
| Board size, fitted | 16 x 180 x 2cm |
|---|---|
| Boards per pack | 6 |
| Coverage per pack | 1.73m² |
| Packs per fence panel | 2, per the listing |
| Covered by two packs | 3.46m² |
| Supplier code | OWP88A, listed here as AWS-OWP88A |
Two packs to a bay, and the board you will have over
The listing says two packs make one fence panel. Twelve boards at 16cm stack to 1.92m, which is taller than the 1.8m the boards themselves are long: eleven boards gets you to 1.76m and the twelfth takes you past it. So a bay is two packs with a board to cut down, drop below ground level, or keep as a spare.
The listing gives the pack rule and not the board count for a given height, so if your posts are already in and the gap between them is fixed, ask the shop how they expect the bay to be set out before you order for a whole run. It is a short question that stops a long boundary being one board out at every post.
- Measure the run between post centres in metres, at both ends of the garden.
- Divide by 1.8m for bays and round up.
- Multiply bays by two for packs at full height.
- For a lower fence, divide the finished height in metres by 0.16 for boards, then by six for packs.
- Add an allowance for cuts, and ask the shop what it should be for this profile.
A 12m run at full height is seven bays, so fourteen packs. The same run at eight boards a bay, which finishes at 1.28m, is 56 boards: ten packs, with four boards over.
Quote the full code, because the listing says so
The description ends by asking for the full product code and title when an order is placed, and the reason is visible in the range: 88A, 88B, 88D, 88E and 88F are the same board in different shades, one letter apart. Oak 03 is a shade name rather than a description, and the listing does not state the grain depth, the sheen or whether the shade is consistent between batches. If you are matching an existing run, take a board or a photograph of it to the shop instead of matching by name.
If you want the same board in a cooler shade, Fencing 88B in grey oak is listed at the same 16 x 180 x 2cm and the same pack of six. If you would rather have fewer lines across the bay, Fencing 94A is a 30cm board that works out at one pack per fence panel.
Posts, trims and what the listing does not cover
The listing names trims to fit existing concrete posts and posts for a new installation. The trims are the Fencing 86 Trim and the Fencing 94 Trim in black; the posts are the 6-inch black fence post in a pack of four and the 8-inch version in a pack of two. What it does not say is which trim suits which post width here, whether any fixings are included, or what the composite is made of, and it gives no fire or wind figures. Those are shop questions, and worth asking in one go.
The rest of the profiles sit in fencing, inside the wider garden and outdoor range. Delivery is free within 50 miles of the Glasgow store and £50 beyond. When your bay count is settled, order the Fencing 88A Oak 03 pack two to the bay, quoting the full title and code.
