Fencing 86F Khaki: the pack maths for a 1.8m fence bay

Fencing 86F Khaki: the pack maths for a 1.8m fence bay — Langham Furniture journal

This guide is about

Fencing 86F - Khaki - Outdoor - 180cm (1 Pack / 6pcs)

View the product

The Fencing 86F board pack in khaki is sold by the pack rather than the board, so the first job on a boundary is arithmetic rather than colour. The listing gives enough figures to settle it before you order, which is the point at which a fence either works out neatly or leaves you a pack short at the last post.

What one pack holds

The listing gives three numbers and they agree with each other: a board of 15 x 180 x 2cm when fitted and interlocked, six boards to a pack, and 1.62m² covered per pack. Six boards 15cm deep stack to 90cm, and at 180cm long that is 1.62m² exactly.

The listing states two packs per fence panel, and the numbers show why. Twelve boards at 15cm stack to 1.80m, and the boards are 1.80m long, so a standard bay of 1.8m by 1.8m is two packs with nothing cut and nothing spare.

Working out the packs for your run

  1. Measure the run between post centres in metres, and measure it at both ends of the garden rather than once in the middle.
  2. Measure the height you actually want. Do not assume the fence coming down was 1.8m.
  3. Divide the run by 1.8m for the number of bays and round up.
  4. At full height, multiply bays by two for packs.
  5. For a lower fence, divide the height in metres by 0.15 for the board count, then divide by six for packs. A 1.2m fence is eight boards a bay, so one and a third packs.
  6. Add an allowance for cuts and breakages, and ask the shop what it should be for this profile.

A 9m run at full height is five bays, so ten packs. A 9m run at 1.2m is forty boards, so seven packs with two boards over. The packaging figures are worth a look at the same time: a pack is listed at 13 x 17 x 181cm and 18.5kg gross, so it is a long, flat, two-handed parcel rather than something that fits across a car seat.

The narrowest board width here, and what that shows

At 15cm, the 86 boards are the narrowest width in this range, and 86F is the khaki one of the five. A 1.8m bay made from it shows eleven horizontal lines, where the 30cm boards of Fencing 94A show five. That is the real difference between the two profiles, and it is worth deciding before you pick a shade: a tighter line pattern suits a short run close to the house, a wider board quietens a long boundary.

The listing describes the composite as weather and UV resistant, and says the boards interlock without visible gaps. What it does not do is say what the composite is made of, give a fire classification, or state any wind rating, so if a planning condition or an exposed site decides this job, ask the shop before ordering.

Posts, trims and a lattice top

The listing names its own fittings. For an existing concrete post run there are trims: the Fencing 86 Trim and the Fencing 94 Trim in black, four lengths to a pack. For a new run there are posts: the 6-inch black fence post, four to a pack, and the 8-inch black fence post, two to a pack. Both listed posts are black. The listing does not say how black uprights read against khaki boards, so look at the two together before you commit to a whole boundary.

Khaki is one of five shades in the 86 profile, and the codes differ by a single letter, so quote the full title and the code when you order. The rest of the range sits in fencing, under the wider garden and outdoor listings along with the decking and cladding profiles.

Delivery is free within 50 miles of the Glasgow store and £50 beyond. On the day, count the boards and lay one against your own measurement before anything is cut. Once your bay count is settled, order the Fencing 86F khaki pack two packs to the bay, plus whatever allowance the shop advises.
