Everleigh Ottoman Divan: Horizontal Bands and a Lifting Base
This guide is about
Everleigh Ottoman Divan Bed
The Everleigh ottoman divan bed is defined by a detail you only notice properly in daylight. Across the upper middle of the headboard runs a group of recessed seams in narrow horizontal bands, with the cloth left smooth above and below them. The bands catch a shadow line, so the board has depth without being buttoned or channelled.
Horizontal, not vertical
Direction changes what a headboard does to a room. Vertical channels stretch a wall upwards; horizontal bands widen it, and they put the only line of detail roughly where your eye lands when you walk through the door. In a room with a low ceiling that is the more flattering of the two. The smooth areas above and below mean the board still reads as calm, which is the difference between this and a fully pleated headboard.
The board is upholstered in the same cloth as the base and the sides, so the bed comes as one piece. Two heights are listed: the standard 26 inch board, and a 54 inch floor-standing board that runs down to the carpet behind the base and covers the wall.
The base lifts, the whole of it
Gas struts take the weight of the mattress and the top swings up from the side, opening the complete footprint of the bed as one lined compartment. No drawers, no runners, and nothing that needs clear floor in front of it, which is why ottoman beds beat drawer storage in a room where the bed sits in a corner or hard against a wall. You reach everything inside it from one side.
Two things to settle before you order. First, which side you want the lid to open towards, because that is the side that needs space. Second, what is on the wall above the pillows, since the lid swings up through that area. If you are not sure there is room, ask us with the size you are considering rather than guessing at it.
Six sizes, and a useful extra 5 cm
- Small Single 2FT6: 75 cm wide, 196.5 cm long
- Single 3FT: 90 cm wide, 196.5 cm long
- Small Double 4FT: 120 cm wide, 196.5 cm long
- Double 4FT6: 135 cm wide, 196.5 cm long
- King 5FT: 150 cm wide, 205 cm long
- Super King 6FT: 184 cm wide, 205 cm long
The Everleigh runs 196.5 cm long up to a 4FT6 and 205 cm in the king sizes, which is a little longer than some of the other designs on the same kind of base. Taller sleepers should take that seriously, and anyone fitting a bed into an alcove or under a window should measure the length before the width. The product page has a size guide drawing the bed from the side and from above with every size to one scale.
Twenty-six colourways
The Everleigh is upholstered to order in any of 26 colourways, and every part finished in cloth is done in the one you pick. Cloth choice interacts with those recessed bands more than you would expect. A Plush Velvet in Steel, Mocca or Black throws a strong shadow into each seam and makes the banding the first thing you see. A flat Coniston or Naples in Almond, Cream or Mink softens it until it is a texture rather than a feature. If the banding is why you like the bed, lean towards a pile; if you want it understated, take a weave. Ask us for a swatch either way.
Delivery and the mattress
Mattresses are sold separately, so the tension is yours to choose rather than something bundled in. On a lifting base the mattress weight is part of what you raise each time, so mention it if you are after something very firm. Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond it, which covers the city and a good way past it; beyond that 50 mile radius the charge is £50 and you see it before you order, so there are no surprises for customers buying beds in Scotland further north.
Each one is handmade to order in your size, cloth and headboard. Configure yours on the Everleigh ottoman page, or see how it compares with the other designs in our ottoman divan beds range.
