DMD02 Floor Lamp: 158cm tall, 47cm wide and where it fits
This guide is about
DMD02 Floor Lamp
The DMD02 Floor Lamp is listed in one size, 47 x 47 x 158cm, with what the description calls a crushed diamond finish. One size means there is nothing to configure and everything to measure, so this guide is about the two numbers that decide whether it works where you want to put it: a 158cm height and a 47cm footprint.
The figures, exactly as listed
| Item | As the listing gives it |
|---|---|
| Size available | 47 x 47 x 158cm |
| Finish | Crushed diamond |
| Supplier code | DMD02 |
For a floor lamp those figures read as width, depth and height, which makes the widest point about 47cm across and the whole thing 158cm tall. The listing does not describe a shade, a head or a base, so it does not say which part that 47cm is measured across. The listing does not label them, so if the width is the figure that matters to you, ask us to confirm it before you order.
What 158cm and 47cm mean in a real room
158cm is a standing-height lamp, a little under the eye level of most adults. The description calls it ambient illumination and names reading and working, and that height puts the top of the lamp above the back of a sofa rather than behind it. What the listing does not say is which way the light is thrown or how bright it is, so ask us before you count on it as the light you read by rather than a light in the corner.
It also means the lamp is tall enough to be seen over furniture from across the room, so it reads as part of the room's outline. Check your own sightlines: stood next to a television it will be in shot from the sofa, and in a room with a sloping ceiling or a low beam, measure the headroom at the exact spot, not in the middle of the room.
The 47cm footprint is the number people forget
A 47cm square is a real piece of floor, close to half a metre each way. Three things to measure before you buy:
- The gap beside the sofa. If you are slotting it between a sofa arm and a wall or a chimney breast, you need a clear 47cm plus a few centimetres to get your hand in. A narrower gap and the lamp will stand forward of the furniture.
- The walkway. Leave about 60cm of clear floor for anybody passing. A lamp that takes 47cm out of a 90cm route makes the route awkward.
- Where the cable has to go. Think about which socket it reaches and whether the lead will cross a doorway or a walkway.
DMD02 or MD02?
Worth knowing before you choose: the MD02 Floor Lamp in the same range is listed at exactly the same 47 x 47 x 158cm. The difference the listings describe is the surface. The DMD02 is described as a crushed diamond finish, the MD02 as diamond-patterned strips. So the decision between them is visual rather than practical, and photographs will tell you more than either description. If you want to see them side by side, ask.
What the listing does not say
The description does not state what the crushed diamond surface is made of or what it is applied to, what the lamp weighs, what sort of bulb it takes or how many, whether a bulb is included, where the switch is, or whether it arrives assembled. None of that is in the data, so none of it is in this post. This is a piece the shop supplies and we can ask the supplier any of it for you.
What it goes with
The matching table-height piece is the DMD12 Table Lamp at 33 x 33 x 71cm, described with the same crushed diamond finish, which is the usual way of putting one tall light and one low light in the same room without them clashing. Smaller again, the MD41/42 Table Lamp is 43cm tall with diamond strip detailing in silver or rose gold. The rest of the range is on the lighting page.
If the 47cm footprint and 158cm height suit your corner, the DMD02 Floor Lamp page has the photographs. Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond.
