Decking 85A Oak 03: pack coverage and how many you need
This guide is about
Decking 85A - Oak 03 - Outdoor - 290cm - (1 pack / 4pcs)
Composite decking is sold by the pack, not by the board, so the first job is arithmetic rather than shopping. Decking 85A in Oak 03 comes four boards to a pack, each one 290cm long, and the listing puts the coverage at 1.74m² per pack. Measure the area first and the rest of this is simple division.
The figures, exactly as the listing gives them
| Detail | As listed |
|---|---|
| Board size | 15 x 290 x 2.3cm per panel |
| Boards per pack | 4 |
| Coverage per pack | 1.74m² |
| Surface | Composite board with a wood grain texture, Oak 03 |
| Compatible trim | Wall Panel 73/83 Trim - 290cm |
| Fitting clips | Decking Fittings (80pcs), sold separately |
Read 15 x 290 x 2.3cm as width, length and thickness: a 290cm run, 15cm across the face, 23mm deep. That is the order the coverage figure agrees with, since four boards at 0.15m by 2.90m come to 1.74m². If a drawing depends on it, confirm the order with the shop before anybody cuts.
Working out the packs
Take the area in metres, multiply the two sides, divide by 1.74 and round up. Then add a margin for cuts. A 290cm board almost never divides neatly into a real patio, and every cut leaves an off-cut that may be too short to use anywhere else.
| Packs | Coverage |
|---|---|
| 1 | 1.74m² |
| 2 | 3.48m² |
| 4 | 6.96m² |
| 5 | 8.70m² |
| 8 | 13.92m² |
| 12 | 20.88m² |
A 3m by 2.5m patio is 7.5m², so five packs cover it with a little over. Run the boards the long way across a rectangle and you waste less, because fewer boards need cutting at all.
What you need alongside the boards
The pack is boards only. The listing names Decking Fittings (80pcs) as the fitting clips, which slide into the grooves in the decking and screw down, and it says screws are not included in that pack either. For edges it names the Wall Panel 73/83 Trim - 290cm. The listings do not say how many clips one pack of boards needs, or what colours the trim is offered in, so ask the shop to check both against your layout before you order.
What the listing does not tell you
Being straight about the gaps saves a return. There is no slip rating, no span or joist-centre figure, no weight per board or pack, and no colour reference beyond the name Oak 03. Nothing is said about what the boards sit on, so if you have no substructure yet, treat that as a separate conversation. The dark brown and black boards in this range are described as reversible, with a wood grain face and a ribbed anti-slip face; this Oak 03 listing describes the wood grain texture only, so ask before you plan on turning a board over. What the listing does state is that the board is composite and UV resistant.
The rest of the range
The same 290cm board is listed in Grey, Dark Brown, Black and Khaki, all at the same size and coverage, which makes a border in a second colour easy to plan. The full set sits in Decking, alongside the clips and trims in outdoor trims and fittings.
