Wall Panel 87B Grey: working out how many packs you need
This guide is about
Wall Panel 87B - Grey - Outdoor - 290cm - (1 pack / 6pcs)
Wall Panel 87B is the grey finish in the 87 series of composite outdoor cladding. A pack holds six panels, each 290cm long, and the listing puts the covered area at 2.35m² per pack once the panels are fitted and interlocked. That single figure is the one to plan a wall from, and the rest of this post is how to turn it into a pack count. The listing itself is on the Wall Panel 87B grey outdoor panel page.
What a pack of 87B actually covers
| Figure | As the listing gives it |
|---|---|
| Panel size | 14.7 x 290 x 2cm |
| Panel size once fitted and interlocked | 13.5 x 290 x 2cm |
| Pieces per pack | 6 |
| Area covered per pack, fitted | 2.35m² |
The listing does not label which figure is width and which is thickness, though 290cm is plainly the length. Read it as a narrow board a shade under 15cm across and 2cm thick, and confirm that with the shop if your detailing depends on it.
Working the packs out from your wall
- Measure the wall in centimetres, width and height, at more than one point. Outdoor walls are rarely square.
- Multiply the two and divide by 10,000 to get square metres.
- Divide that by 2.35 and round up.
- Add a pack if the wall has openings to cut around, because offcuts from a cut-out are rarely long enough to reuse.
A wall 3m wide and 2m high is 6m². Three packs cover 7.05m², which leaves room for cuts and a spare board. Two packs would land you 1.3m² short.
Why the panel is 14.7cm but covers 13.5cm
The interlock swallows about 1.2cm of width at every joint, which is why the listing publishes two widths. The coverage figure is worked from the smaller one: 13.5cm multiplied by 290cm, multiplied by six panels, comes to 2.35m². If you plan from 14.7cm instead, you will be short by roughly a tenth of your wall. Use 13.5cm for every calculation and keep 14.7cm only for the first and last board in a run, where one edge has nothing to lock into.
The grey trim and corner
The Wall Panel 73/83 Trim in 290cm lists a B Grey finish that its own options name as fitting panels 73B, 83B and 87B, so that is the trim matched to this panel. For an external return, the 73/83 Corner Trim also offers a B Grey. Both are sold separately. The 87B description also names the 84 Trim in 240cm, but that trim's finish options mention only the 74 and 84 panels, so ask the shop which of the two is right for your run rather than buying both.
One inconsistency worth a call
The description contains a sentence saying the pack contains 12 pieces, and two other places on the same listing say six. The product name says six and the 2.35m² is arithmetically six panels, so six is the figure the coverage rests on. It costs nothing to have the shop confirm the count before a large order goes in.
Other finishes in the same series share these measurements, so a plan drawn for grey works for the 87D in dark brown or the 87A in Oak 03 without being redrawn. Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond. When your pack count is settled, order the Wall Panel 87B grey outdoor cladding, or compare the rest of the outdoor wall panels first.
