Chelsea Dining Table: three lengths, and the one that is deeper
This guide is about
Chelsea Dining Table (1.5/1.8/2m)
The Chelsea Dining Table (1.5/1.8/2m) is offered in three lengths, and there is a detail in the size list that is easy to miss: the two smaller tables are 90cm deep, the 2m is 100cm. Ten centimetres front to back matters more in a narrow room than 20cm of length does, so read the sizes properly before you choose.
The three sizes as listed
| Option | As listed | Reads as |
|---|---|---|
| 1.5m | 150 x 90 x 75cm | 150cm long, 90cm deep, 75cm high |
| 1.8m | 180 x 90 x 75cm | 180cm long, 90cm deep, 75cm high |
| 2m | 200 x 100 x 75cm | 200cm long, 100cm deep, 75cm high |
All three share the frame the listing describes: chrome, with circular legs at both ends joined by a supporting bar.
What each length seats
Reckon on about 60cm of table edge for a place setting, and treat 70cm or more as comfortable.
- 150cm: four with room to spare, six if both ends are used.
- 180cm: six on the long sides, eight using the ends.
- 200cm: six generously or eight on the long sides at a squeeze, ten using both ends. The extra 10cm of depth is what makes the end seats genuinely usable rather than tolerated.
The floor space, size by size
Allow roughly 75cm out from each edge for a chair in use, and about 100cm on any side where somebody has to walk behind a seated guest.
| Size | Chairs on the long sides | Chairs all round, with walkways |
|---|---|---|
| 150cm | about 150 x 240cm | about 350 x 290cm |
| 180cm | about 180 x 240cm | about 380 x 290cm |
| 200cm | about 200 x 250cm | about 400 x 300cm |
Tape the outline on the floor, then walk the room and pull a chair out inside it before you order. A 2m table in a room that wanted 1.8m is a decision you notice every time you walk past it.
The question to ask about the top
The listing says the table is offered with marble or ceramic tops, but the only choice the product page actually presents is the size. So before you order, ask the shop which top the length you want comes with, and ask for a photograph of the piece rather than relying on the description. The two materials behave differently in use and there is no point guessing.
The listing also tells you the frame is chrome with a supporting bar between the end legs. It does not give a top thickness, a weight, or the position of that bar above the floor. The bar is worth a question if you intend to use a bench, since it sits between you and tucking the bench right under.
How it sits beside the rest of the range
For a square room, the Chelsea Round Table (1.3m) carries the same chrome-frame look on a 130cm round marble top. The SG-Chelsea Dining Table (1.8/2m) is the same shape in the larger sizes only, and the Lewis Dining Table (1.2/1.5/1.8/2m) adds a 1.2m size if your room is smaller than anything the Chelsea offers. The full set is in dining tables.
