Chelsea Dark Grey Bench: 130cm or 180cm, and where each fits

Chelsea Dark Grey Bench: 130cm or 180cm, and where each fits — Langham Furniture journal

This guide is about

Chelsea Dark Grey Bench 130/180cm

View the product

The Chelsea Dark Grey Bench is listed in two lengths, 130cm and 180cm, and both share the same depth and height. So the only real decision is length: how much wall, hallway or table edge you can give it. This is a piece we supply rather than produce, and everything below is taken from its own listing.

The two lengths, and which one the room takes

OptionAs the listing gives it
130cm130 x 48 x 50cm
180cm180 x 48 x 50cm

Read in that order the figures would be length, then depth, then height, which would put the seat at 50cm. The listing does not label them, so that is a reading rather than a fact: if it is going into a tight alcove, or under a table, confirm which figure is which with the shop before you order.

At 130cm, two adults sit side by side without touching shoulders. At 180cm you get three, or two with a bag or a folded throw between them. A few comparisons worth having in front of you:

  • At the foot of a bed. A UK double is 135cm wide and a king is 150cm, so the 130cm sits inside the width of a double and well inside a king. The 180cm lines up with a super king.
  • In a hallway. 48cm of depth is a real intrusion in a narrow hall. Measure the hall, take off 48cm, and check what is left still walks comfortably with a coat on.
  • At a dining table. If 50cm is the seat height, it sits above the 45cm to 47cm of a typical dining chair. Measure from the floor to the underside of your table top, check both knees and the bench front clear it, and have the shop confirm the seat height before you commit to it as dining seating.
  • Against a wall or a window. The listing does not say whether it has a back, or whether the rear face is upholstered, so if you want something to lean on, ask the shop rather than reading it off a photograph.

Frame and fabric, as described

The listing describes a chrome frame with circular legs at each end, joined by a reinforced supporting bar, and soft grey velvet over the seat. The legs sit at the ends rather than at four corners, which makes the feet easy to place either side of a rug edge. The listing does not say how many legs there are at each end, or what the feet are finished with, so ask if the floor is a soft carpet or bare boards.

What the listing does not tell you

Being straight about the gaps saves a return:

  • The velvet's fibre content and cleaning code are not given.
  • No weight limit is quoted for either length.
  • There is no note on floor protectors or adjustable feet.
  • It does not say whether it arrives in one piece or with the legs to fit.
  • Grey velvets differ between ranges, so if it has to sit beside one of the Lewis greys, ask for both to be checked rather than matching them from photographs.

Every one of those can be answered before you order. Ask the shop, and ask for the current lead time while you are at it.

Pieces it sits with

The rest of the benches range covers the same chrome-and-velvet idea in other lengths and shades. The Lewis Dark Grey Bench 110/130/160cm is the closest alternative in the same dark grey and adds a shorter 110cm for a narrow hall. For something lighter, the Lewis Silver Grey Bench 130/160cm is a shimmer silver grey, and the Lewis Mink Bench 110cm swaps grey for mink in one short length. All of them sit in the wider living room range.

Ordering

Pick the length, then check the depth against the walkway it has to leave. Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond. When it arrives, unwrap it and look over the velvet and the chrome before the driver leaves. Photographs and both size options are on the Chelsea Dark Grey Bench page.
