Candle Holder Small or Large: choosing between 20 and 31cm

The Candle Holder Small / Large has one of the shortest listings in the Mirror Ornaments range. It is two lines of measurements and a size choice, nothing else. That is not much to go on, so this post sticks to what those measurements actually decide and says plainly where the listing stops.

The two sizes, as the listing gives them

The base is the same on both: a 12cm square. Only the third figure changes, by 11cm. You pick the option on the product page before adding it to your basket, so decide which one you want before you get there.

Choosing 20cm or 31cm

Height is the only variable, so the decision comes down to the sightline where it will stand.

• Under something. Measure the clear air above the surface. A shelf or a wall mirror hanging 25cm above a console rules the large one out before you start.
• On a dining table. Anything much over 25cm blocks the view across the table when people are seated, so the small one is the safer choice there.
• On a hall console or a mantelpiece. Nobody is looking through it, and the extra 11cm is what makes the piece register from the doorway rather than disappearing into the surface.
• As a pair or a trio. Two different heights beside each other look deliberate; two of the same height usually look like a mistake. One of each is the straightforward way to get that.

Whichever you choose, the 12cm base needs a surface deeper than 12cm with a margin behind it, so measure front to back as well.

This listing is a dimension line, and that matters

Being direct about it: beyond the two sizes, the listing records nothing. It does not state the material, the finish, the colour, the weight, the size of the candle opening, or what sort of candle the piece is sized for. The product page carries four photographs, which will tell you more about the look than any description would, but a photograph cannot tell you the size of the candle opening.
