Belvedere Ottoman Divan Bed: the lattice, the posts and the lift
This guide is about
Belvedere Ottoman Divan Bed
The headboard is what separates one divan from another, and the Belvedere has the most architectural one here. A close diamond lattice, buttoned in the same cloth as the rest of the bed, sits inside a plain border, and at each outer edge a slim upright post stands proud of the panel. It is a framed board rather than a padded rectangle, and those posts are the detail that gives it a front and a finish.
Check the wall before the floor
Because the posts stand proud at the outer edges, this board wants its full width clear. If the bed is going into an alcove, between two fitted wardrobes, or beside a chimney breast, measure the headboard width into the gap rather than assuming the base width is the limit. It is a small thing that is very annoying to discover on delivery day, and we would rather you asked us first.
The base lifts, all of it
The whole base lifts on gas struts, which take the weight of the mattress while the top swings up from the side, opening the full footprint of the bed as one lined compartment. No drawers, no runners, and nothing that has to clear a wall or a wardrobe door before it will open. That is the most storage available under a bed of this size, and it stays reachable even when the bed is pushed into a corner, which is exactly where a drawer base stops being useful.
The one thing to plan for is which side it opens towards, since a side-opening lid needs clear space beside the bed rather than at the foot.
Six sizes
- Small Single 2FT6 – 75 cm wide by 196.5 cm long
- Single 3FT – 90 cm wide by 196.5 cm long
- Small Double 4FT – 120 cm wide by 196.5 cm long
- Double 4FT6 – 135 cm wide by 196.5 cm long
- King 5FT – 150 cm wide by 205 cm long
- Super King 6FT – 184 cm wide by 205 cm long
A divan base is its own footprint, with no upholstered surround adding width at the sides, so these figures are what the bed occupies. That is the quiet advantage divan beds keep over frames in a room that is already tight, and it is why the 2FT6 small single is a real option for a box room or a landing bedroom rather than a compromise.
Two headboard heights
A 26 inch headboard comes with the bed at no extra cost, and a 54 inch floor standing headboard is offered as an alternative. The taller one reaches down to the floor instead of bolting to the base, and it gives the lattice far more room to read as a pattern: at 54 inches the diamonds and the upright posts become the architecture of the wall behind the bed, where at 26 inches they are a well-detailed board. Look at what is on that wall, since a floor standing board needs a clear run at skirting level.
Fabric, delivery and mattresses
The Belvedere is upholstered to order in any of 26 colourways, and the headboard, base and sides are all finished in the cloth you choose. A buttoned lattice depends on the cloth more than a plain panel does: Plush Velvet sinks at every button and throws shadow across the diamonds, while Coniston, Chenille, Naples and Linoso keep the pattern crisper and flatter. Ask us for a sample if you are weighing up two.
Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond it, and we deliver beds in Scotland and well past the border with the charge shown at checkout. Mattresses are sold separately, so you can choose the tension you want on a base that is doing a second job as storage.
