Amberley Upholstered Ottoman Bed: channelled board, full-footprint storage

Most storage beds give something away. A divan box has a visible seam where the lid meets the base; a drawer bed has handles. The Amberley Upholstered Ottoman Bed does not, because it is an upholstered frame rather than a box: the sides are shaped and covered, so when the bed is closed there is nothing to say the whole platform lifts.

What the storage actually is

The mattress platform lifts on gas struts and opens the full area beneath it as a single lined compartment. Not divided, not drawered, not dependent on clear floor at the side to pull anything out. That one detail is why ottoman beds have quietly replaced drawer divans in small bedrooms: a bed pushed into a corner still gives you all of its own footprint back as usable space, and a spare duvet or a suitcase goes in whole rather than being squashed into a drawer that was never deep enough.

What the listing does not state is the exact opening height, so do not guess at it. If there is a sloped ceiling, a window sill or a shelf above where the bed will sit, ask us and we will check the clearance for your size before you order.

The headboard above it

The board is a run of vertical channels held inside a shaped outer frame whose top edge steps in at the shoulders. It is upholstered in the same cloth as the base and the sides, so the fabric runs unbroken from the floor to the top of the board. On a storage bed that matters more than on a frame, because there is more cloth in view and a near-match would be obvious.

Those are finished dimensions at the widest point. Since the storage is the whole footprint, the size you choose decides how much you can put away as well as how much floor the bed takes, which makes the bigger size easier to justify here than on a plain frame. Fabric, delivery and the mattress

It is upholstered to order in any of 26 colourways, and every part finished in cloth is done in your choice. Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond it, so anyone buying beds in Glasgow or the surrounding towns pays nothing for delivery. Mattresses are sold separately; on an ottoman it is worth saying that a mattress you can get a hand under is easier to live with, and we are happy to talk through the options.
