8008 Wall Mirror sizes: 80 x 120, 60 x 90 or 40 x 120cm
This guide is about
8008 Wall Mirror
Three sizes on one listing is a decision rather than a convenience. The 8008 Wall Mirror is offered at 80 x 120cm, 60 x 90cm and 40 x 120cm, each with the same bevelled frame, chosen from the size selector on the product page. It pays to know which one you want before you get there.
The three sizes, and the wall each one suits
| Size | Shape | The wall it tends to suit |
|---|---|---|
| 80 x 120cm | Broad | Over a sideboard, a chest or a chimney breast, where the mirror is the main thing on the wall |
| 60 x 90cm | Compact | A cloakroom, a small hall, above a basin or a narrow console |
| 40 x 120cm | Tall and narrow | Between two doors, beside a window reveal, or as a pair either side of something |
The listing gives each size as a pair of figures and does not say which is the width, so confirm the orientation with the shop if a measured gap depends on it. The 40 x 120cm reads completely differently one way round from the other.
A size the copy mentions but the selector does not carry
The description says the 8008 comes in four sizes and then lists three, and the free-standing 8008 listing refers to a 70 x 100cm as well. What the size selector actually carries is 40 x 120cm, 60 x 90cm and 80 x 120cm. If 70 x 100cm is the size your wall wants, ask the shop rather than assuming it can be supplied. The floor-standing 40 x 150cm version is its own listing, the 8008 Free-Standing Mirror.
Measure the wall, not the mirror
- Measure the clear wall first: skirting to ceiling line, and edge to edge between anything that interrupts it, such as a switch, a radiator or an architrave.
- If it is going over furniture, measure the furniture. A mirror a little narrower than the piece below it looks deliberate; one a few centimetres wider looks like an accident.
- Leave a gap above the furniture top rather than sitting the frame on it. A hand's width is a sound starting point, more if there is a lamp below.
- Put the centre of the glass at standing eye level where the furniture allows, so the reflection is of faces rather than of the ceiling.
- Check the wall type before you drill. Plasterboard needs the right fixing for the weight, and the listing does not state a weight.
The bevel, and the four things to ask
The described feature is the bevelled edge: a shallow angle cut around the perimeter, which catches light as a bright border and gives the frame a sharper line. The listing calls it a bevelled frame in one place and precision-cut bevelled edges in another, and never says whether the bevel is cut into the glass or into the frame, so ask if that distinction matters to you. Either way it is subtle, and it is the reason the listing describes this mirror as architectural rather than ornate.
Four things the listing does not settle, each worth a question: the frame material and finish, the glass thickness, the weight, and whether hanging hardware is included and the back is set up to hang both portrait and landscape. If a dark frame suits the room better, the G-M004 Black Wall Mirror is listed at 80 x 120cm in black; for considerably more height, G-M005 Wall Mirror runs to 60 x 180cm. The whole range is in Wall Mirrors.
