A mirror that stands on the floor solves a different problem from one on the wall. Nothing to drill, no stud to find, and you can move it to wherever the light is. The 8008 Free-Standing Mirror is the floor version of the 8008 frame, and it comes at one size: 40 x 150cm.

One size, and what the two figures mean

The listing gives the size as 40 x 150cm and does not label which figure is which. On a piece meant to stand up, the 150cm will be the height and the 40cm the width, but if it is going into a measured gap, ask the shop to confirm the pair before you order rather than working it out from a photograph.

Width is what rules a floor mirror in or out. At 40cm it is narrower than most internal doors, so it will usually stand beside a wardrobe, in the corner of a bedroom, or behind a door without getting in the way of either. Height is what you get for it: a piece listed at 150cm tall, standing on the floor, gives a head-to-toe view once you step back a pace. How much of that 150cm is glass rather than frame is not stated, so ask if a precise glass height matters to you.

The floor space it really takes

A leaning mirror is not flat to the wall. The foot sits forward of the skirting, and the shallower you set the lean, the less stable it feels. So the floor you need to clear is deeper than the frame, and it is floor that cannot hold a laundry basket or a bin. Measure the strip in front of the wall as well as the gap across it.

The listing does not state the depth of the base, the angle the frame is designed to lean at, or whether a strap or stay for securing it back to the wall is supplied. If the room is used by children or a dog, ask about that fixing specifically before you buy.

Bevelled edges, and what is not described

The one detail the listing describes is the bevelled edge: a shallow angle cut around the perimeter, so the border catches light differently from the face and reads as a bright line. The listing does not say whether the bevel is on the glass or on the frame, and the companion 8008 listing calls it a bevelled frame, so ask the shop if that distinction matters to you. Either way it is a quiet effect rather than an ornate border, which is why the 8008 sits as well against a plain wall as a patterned one.

What the listing does not give: a frame material or finish, a glass thickness, or a weight. Four photographs are on the product page and they are the best guide to the frame's colour, but a question to the shop is the only way to settle the rest.

The wall sizes are a separate listing, the 8008 Wall Mirror, and the copy here also mentions a 70 x 100cm, which is worth asking about if that is the size your wall wants. For a taller floor mirror, the F1710 Free-Standing Mirror is listed at 50 x 160cm with an aluminium frame; for one with a lit border, the F1761 (LED) Free-Standing Mirror is 55 x 160cm. All of them sit in Wall Mirrors.

Measure the gap across and the clear floor in front of it, then take the 8008 Free-Standing Mirror at 40 x 150cm. Delivery is free within 50 miles of the Glasgow store and £50 beyond.
