Buying Beds in Glasgow: Delivery, Stairs and Lead Times
If you are buying a bed in Glasgow, three practical things decide how smooth it will be: whether your address falls inside our free delivery radius, whether the bed can physically get into the room, and how far ahead you need to order. Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and a flat £50 beyond it; every bed is built to order in a typical four to six weeks; and the headboards on many of our frames are supplied split, so they can be carried up a tenement close and bolted back together once they are in the bedroom. This guide covers each of those in the detail a local buyer actually needs, along with how ordering works when nothing is held in stock.
Where we deliver beds free from our Glasgow store
The 50-mile radius is measured from our Glasgow store, and in practice it takes in the whole of the central belt and a good way beyond. If you are anywhere in the list below, delivery costs you nothing.

Edinburgh is the one worth pausing on. It sits right around the edge of the radius, so the answer genuinely depends on which part of the city you are in and which route the measurement takes. Rather than guess, send us your postcode through the contact page before you order and we will tell you which side of the line you fall on.
Further north and west — Perth, Dundee, Aberdeen, Oban and beyond — you are outside the radius and the charge is a flat £50 anywhere on the mainland. It does not scale with distance. A small number of outlying postcodes and offshore addresses are the exception: those we quote individually, so send us the postcode before you order. Tenements, closes and why our headboards split
Glasgow's housing stock is the reason this section exists. A great many of the city's flats sit up a tenement close: a stone stairwell with a half-landing turn, a handrail that eats into the width, and a flat door at the top that was never designed with a super king headboard in mind. Converted attics, Victorian terraces in the west end and older townhouses across Lanarkshire and Ayrshire present the same problem in different forms.
This is exactly why the headboards on many of our frames are supplied split. Rather than arriving as one rigid slab, the headboard comes in sections that are carried up separately and bolted together from the rear once they are in the bedroom. Depending on the model that might be two, three or four sections, with the widest and tallest designs splitting into the most. The bolts and the join sit behind the board; from the front, where you look at it every day, the headboard reads as a single piece.
It is worth understanding what this does and does not solve. A split headboard removes the single biggest obstacle — the height and width of the board itself — but the base and the mattress still have to make the same turn. Measuring remains sensible even with a bed designed to come apart.
Measuring your route in before you order
Ten minutes with a tape measure before you order is worth a great deal more than a conversation on delivery day. Work through the route the bed will take, not just the bedroom.
- The front door and close door. Measure the clear opening with the door standing open, not the frame.
- The narrowest point of the stairs. On a tenement stair that is usually where the handrail meets the turn. Measure across the tread at that point.
- The half-landing. Note how much room there is to pivot. A long, rigid item needs turning space, not just width.
- The bedroom door and any doorway on the way. Again, clear opening rather than frame.
- Ceiling height, if you are drawn to a tall headboard. Some of our designs run well past head height, and several can be built floor to ceiling as a chargeable option — but only if the ceiling is measured first.
- Lift dimensions, in a modern block. Depth matters as much as the door width.
One more measurement people forget: the finished width of the bed itself. Several of our designs carry panels out past the mattress on either side, and the width we quote includes those panels. A super king in a panelled design occupies noticeably more wall than a super king mattress does. Check the specifications on the individual product page and measure your wall against that figure, allowing a small tolerance for a hand-built piece.
Lead times: order earlier than you think
Nothing we sell is held in a warehouse. Each bed is cut and upholstered after the order is placed, in the size, fabric and colour you have chosen, and the typical lead time is four to six weeks. That is the trade-off for choosing your own combination rather than taking what happens to be in stock.
What it means in practice for a Glasgow buyer is straightforward: work backwards from your date. Moving in at the end of next month, a baby due in the spring, a room being decorated over the summer — all of them want an order placed six to eight weeks ahead to leave a comfortable margin. If you have a firm deadline, tell us when you order rather than after.
Choosing fabric and colour without seeing them
Most people choose their fabric from photographs. That works better than you would expect for shape and proportion, and less well for colour — a velvet in Charcoal or Truffle can look quite different under a Glasgow winter afternoon than it does on a lit product shot.
The way round it is to order samples first. There are five fabric families — Plush Velvet, Teddy Bouclé, Fusion Linen, Naples Weave and Arlington — and ten colours: Denim, Blush, Silver, Charcoal, Duck Egg, Ox Blood, Forest, Saffron, Mink and Truffle. Samples cost £2.00 each, and they are the cheapest insurance available on a purchase of this size. Order two or three, live with them against your walls and curtains for a few days in daylight and under your own lamps, then commit.
What to do if you are not sure
Because everything is made to order, the questions worth asking are best asked before the order goes in rather than after. Three come up most often from buyers in and around Glasgow:
- “Will it get up my stairs?” Send us your measurements and the bed you are considering, and we will tell you honestly. Some designs split into more sections than others.
- “Am I inside the free delivery area?” Give us the postcode. Anywhere in the central belt is almost certainly fine; Edinburgh and points north are worth confirming.
- “Can it be made to a particular size?” Several designs can be made to a bespoke size on request. Ask before you order and we will confirm what is possible for that design.
All three go to the same place: the contact form. There is no obligation attached, and a five-minute exchange beforehand prevents most of the problems that turn up later.
A short checklist before you order
- Measure the room, then measure the route in — close, stairs, landing, doorways.
- Check the quoted overall width of the bed, not the mattress size, against your wall.
- Confirm your postcode falls inside the 50-mile radius if you are anywhere near the edge of it.
- Order fabric samples and look at them in your own light before deciding.
- Allow four to six weeks, and a little more if you have a fixed date.
